Return on investment

I am currently reading a book about Economics and one of the chapters is about cost vs. value. ie. the amount you invest in something must payback more in value.

Return on investment, in my mind, is one of THE most important factor of any online marketing… putting time/effort/money into the areas of your marketing that offer the most reward - especially in cost conscious times such as these.

It’s so easy to spend money when marketing on the web - Pay Per Click is a great example - without wondering if there is actually a real return on it.

That’s why you absolutely must measure your results. And, I’m not talking about extra visitors, I’m talking about sales leads, etc… tangible results - sometimes referred to as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Here’s a whitepaper that discusses website KPIs in more details.

And, why stop there? Investment into any aspect of your life needn’t be any different if you can ascertain what the real payback value is. This includes your ongoing education, what you get out of your career or your family, etc. The possibilities are endless.
